Building Tech Expecations

 

Building Technical Duties

Below are recommended technical duties that are expected of a building technician. Other duties may be expected based on situations.


  Computer Setup

     
  • Set up new computer, plug it in and set up purchased applications and accessories.
  •  
  • Create necessary accounts on computer.
  •  
  • Transfer any files from old computer to new computer.
  •  
  • Setup printer(s).
  •  
  • Install district email client and setup up email account if necessary.
  •  
  • Connect peripherals such as LCD projectors. scanners, digital camera and other instructional tools.
  •  
  • Install and configure any purchased software on computers.

Technology Maintenance

 
       
  • Run System updates when appropriate.
  •    
  • Verify anti-virus software is installed and properly configured
  •    
  • Assist users with backup of their documents, if needed.
  •    
  • Troubleshoot system problems using necessary tools and methodologies.
  •    
  • Work with district staff to create and maintain student and staff file services.
  •    
  • Keep track of purchased software and hardware with district provided tools.
  •    
  • Re-install operating system and applications using district approved tools when necessary.
  •    
  • Diagnose Network connectivity issues and work with the district to resolve issues.
  •    
  • Diagnose and repair issues with printers, LCD projectors, peripherals using district resources.       

       
  •    
  • Printer setup: Install printer drivers and IP address printing.
  •    
  • Initiate warranty or out of warranty repair on district technology.
  •    
  • Handle disposal of unwanted technology.
  •  
 

Have familiarity with the following applications or systems

 
       
  • District training resources and opportunities for staff on approved applications.
  •    
  • District approved Macintosh and Windows Operating Systems.
  •    
  • Email: Lotus Notes Client install and Lotus Notes Web access.
  •    
  • Internet Browsers.
  •    
  • District approved approved instructional applications.
  •    
  • Nutrition Services system.
  •    
  • Elementary Summary Reports:  Install, configure, customize, and backup.
  •    
  • Student Email basics:  Password Lookup, login, servers, and attachments.
  •    
  • Campus Basics:  login, gradebook, reports, lesson planner, attendance, address label exports.
  •    
  • Mail Merge:  File Maker Pro, Microsoft Word, (template student letter, address labels)
  •    
  • Parent Messaging systems, phone and web.
  •    
  • Video Retrieval System:  phone or web system.
  •    
  • Electronic Bulletin Boards.
  •    
  • Administrative systems such as FMS, iProcurement and Peoplesoft.
  •    
  • Website basics:  District CMS, create sections, items, lists, accounts, links, resources.
  •    
  • Online Learning Resources:  United Streaming, Atomic Learning, library catalog, online databases, etc.
  •    
  • Locate Tech Resources  TechTalk, Computer Trader, FAQ, Software Downloads, SIS help, TechHelp.
  •
