FUNCTIONS OF THE DISTRICT MATERIALS CENTER (DMC)

Materials Library

To maintain a collection of instructional models, visuals, and specimens that can be circulated to schools for short-term use.  Primary emphasis is placed on expensive or unusual items which are not suitable for purchase by every school.  The DMC also provides certain materials in limited quantity for use by teachers on a trial basis.

Services

Self-service laminating (18” or 27” width) at 50 cents per yard, and the availability of an Ellison Die Cutting Press (free, first come, first serve, “bring your own paper”).

Teachers are encouraged to visit the center and browse
through materials. See location and hours to the right.

LOAN PERIOD

Most materials are checked out for a 4 week period.
SCIIS
Kits (18 weeks), Snowshoes, and Skis are some of the exceptions.

SELECTION PROCESS

Funds for the DMC are expended
for the maintenance of the existing collection of materials and provision for added copies of items in heavy demand. The primary criterion for including materials in the permanent DMC collection is that they are more effectively managed and used through such a center than would be the case if copies were in every school. The DMC no longer has 16mm films, books, audio-records or filmstrips available.  Inclusion of such materials is incidental and not part of a general effort to build collections of those media.

DELIVERY AND RETURNS

Materials may be picked up in person during regular business hours or delivered directly to the school via District Storehouse truck.  Delivery dates are based on school location and Storehouse schedule.  Returns may also be done in person or materials (properly secured and labeled “Return to DMC-1930 Como”) may be placed at the Storehouse pickup site in the school building by 8 am on the due date.
Storehouse pickup service requires calling 651-603-4992 one day ahead to schedule a pickup.
