In its second year, the SPPS Metronet Information Literacy Project is a collaborative effort between Saint Paul Public Schools and Metronet,  to implement the Minnesota Educational Media Organization Information and Technology Literacy Standards. Library media specialists and teacher teams from each of the seven high schools will meet regularly throughout the school year as they work together to incorporate the Research Process, use of Reliable Resources and Responsible Use of Information and Technology into their instruction. Accomplished with funding from Metronet, the project will focus on SPPS 10th grade students and will include Metro State University and the Saint Paul Public Libraries as project partners.

Participant Goals

Research

Improve the ability of students and teachers to conduct effective research by using a process that includes the following 5 steps:
  1. Formulate a Question
  2. Gather and Evaluate information
  3. Conclude (form c conclusion)
  4. Communicate information and conclusion
  5. Evaluate process and product
Use Reliable Resources

All participants will identify and use available, reliable resources whenever possible. This includes but is not limited to, electronic, human, and print. Collaboration will be encouraged at all levels.

Responsible Use

Promote understanding and practice responsible use of information and technology. Advise and assist  teachers in the creation of plagiarism-proof assignments. Help all involved to approach ethical use in the spirit of good citizenship rather than compliance.
