Tech Integration Class: iPhoto in the Classroom

iPhoto is a great program to catalog, organize, and display digital photos.  with iphoto 5 you can also do some simple editing
I.    Layout and terminology.  See page one of the handout to explain the layout of the program, tools and terminology

A.    Library/Albums
Library contains all the pictures stored in iphoto Albums are created to organize these images.  An image can be in multiple Albums but if it is deleted from the Library it is gone.
B.    Viewer

c.    Book/ Order Prints
d.    Burn to CD/DVD
II.    Importing images
You will need to have a digital camera, scanner, or pictures that are stored on your computer.
A.    Most cameras are connected to the computer via a USB cable that came supplied with the camera.  Once the camera is turned on, typically the
computer will recognize that a camera has been plugged in and open up iphoto and go to the "Import mode".

III.    Editing Images
Select an image(s), or Album and Press edit
A.    Rotate
Hold down the option key to change the rotation
B.    Crop
Select the constrain, select the area of the picture you want to keep(Crop)  and then Crop
C.    Red Eye
Select an area that includes the eyes and press Red-Eye
D.    Enhance
Press Enhance
E.    Retouch
Select the tool and use it to retouch and area of the picture
F.    Adjust
Change multiple settings of a picture including balance, color, contrast and brightness.
G.    Remember to press Done
IV.    Sharing Pictures
Sometimes you may want to Print, email, archive, transfer images out of iphoto catalog to another area of your computer, a program or another person.  Use the Share menu to access these functions

A.    Select the pictures or Album you wish to Share
1.    Exporting Images
a.    From the Share menu select Export
b.    Select the format for exporting,
(1)    Web page to create a web page of your images
(2)    File Export to copy each of the pictures to your computer

(3)    Quicktime to create a Quicktime Slideshow of your pictures
2.     Email images
a.    Press email
(1)    Select the size, and caption information
(2)    An email will be created that you can address and send.
3.    Print images
a.    Press the Print Button
(1)    Select a printer
(2)    Select the format and size of the desired pictures
(a)    Verify that the image resolution is large enough for the size of the photo
You will see a Yellow triangle with an exclamation point if the image quality is not enough for the selected size
b.    Order Prints of Create a book
(1)    Press Order Prints
(a)    Select the size and Quantity of pictures you want to order
(b)    Verify that the image resolution is large enough for the size of the photo
You will see a Yellow triangle with an exclamation point if the image quality is not enough for the selected size
(c)    Pay for them
(2)    Press Book to create a book
(a)    Select desired theme and book size
(b)    Arrange images and add text for each page
(c)    Verify that the image resolution is large enough for the size of the photo
You will see a Yellow triangle with an exclamation point if the image quality is not enough for the selected size
(d)    Pay or print Book
4.    Create a Slideshow
iPhoto has the ability to create slideshows from pictures of Albums.  These slide shows can include music and have effects. 
a.    Click on slideshow
(1)    Click on the settings to add Dissolves, effects, transitions and tools
(2)    Click on music to add music you might have stored in your itunes program
