Collaborative Project
Collaborative Project Ideas

Hello Everyone,

Note, after reading this page, please complete the form at the bottom of this page. Click [Finish] to submit the form.

Finding the time to plan and implement technology integration efforts is often difficult. Read over the 'prepackaged' integration activities described below and think about how they could work in your classroom. Then, invite me in to your classroom to work with you to plan and deliver an integrated lesson or unit. We can approach this effort in a variety of ways. If you decide that you’d like me to model a lesson, you can feel free to participate as a student, learning at the same time as your students. Later, when you are comfortable with the new, integrated technology, I will return to assist you in delivering a lesson. If you participate in a project, as a bonus, it will count as your second coach/teacher meeting! Finally, if you have your own idea I'd be happy to assist in implementing it with you.

Project Progression:

  1. Decide Curricular Content and Integration Component: You can email this to me or we can meet briefly. Based on your idea I will take care of most of the planning and preparation duties.
  2. Lesson One: Either you deliver an integrated lesson while I assist or I can demo a lesson while you participate as student and/or assist in the instruction.
  3. Lesson Two (if necessary): You deliver a lesson similar to Lesson One while I assist.
  4. Follow-up Meeting: We will meet briefly to answer questions regarding the lesson and to develop a plan to use the newly-acquired integration component during the remainder of the school year.

Project Settings:

The project idea described below are only a sampling of possibilities and can be implemented in a variety of settings and involving various content. We want to economize on planning time by selecting efforts that are widely applicable. Different classroom settings are possible, as outlined below.

  1. Interactive Group Lesson: Classroom setting - where students are not at individual computer workstations, rather the teacher delivers a lesson with one computer/projector station while students participate with the “teacher” during an interactive, guided lesson.
  2. Computer Lab or Mobile Lab Activity: Classroom setting where students work in pairs or individually at computer workstations while the teacher guides students through activities.
  3. Student Learning Station: Students work independently or in small groups on specific tasks while the teacher is busy with other students.

Productivity Software

Spreadsheet
 Software:

To organize, compute, and present in charts and graphs numerical data.

Lab

Graphing Project (Science, Social Studies)

Learn how to effectively use a spreadsheet, utilizing formulas and creating charts (pie, column, and line). Teachers will select any set of data for project and integration purposes:  population, distance, temperature, research data….

Formulas Project (Math)

Gain a general knowledge of spreadsheets and learn to effectively use spreadsheet formulas to perform calculations.  Students will create calculators for purposes of solving problems they are faced with in their daily assignments. Calculation possibilities include addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, area, perimeter, and time/distance.

Presentation
Software:

To deliver student
projects, including
text, images, sound, movies, and animation.

Lab

Presentation Project (Any Subject):

Gain a general understanding of multimedia presentation software.  Students can research topics and learn to create basic AppleWorks, PowerPoint, or Keynote presentations or "slide shows." Presentations will include text, images, charts, and tables.

Word-Processor
Software:

To organize research notes for research writing.

Lab

Word Processing Project (Language Arts: Writing):

Gain a general understanding of word-processing and the use of word-processing outlining tools. Writing topics could include writing directions, sequencing, explanations, business letters, dialogue, essay, biography, news reports, short stories, personal narratives, friendly letters, announcements, poetry, and book reports.

Database Software:

To organize any
collection of text, numbers, and pictures.

Lab

Database Project (Social Studies or Science):

Gain a general knowledge of database software, learning to enter records and to manipulate and access data from a database. Students can research topic within a larger topic (such as Idaho with the larger topic of American states). Students then take their research notes and enter their data (research data in the form of text, numbers, and photos) into individual database files. The individual files are then combined to form large databases containing all of the student research.

Draw Software:

Creating and measuring points, lines, rays, and
angles.

Lab

Draw Tools Project (Math: Geometry):

Gain a general understanding for AppleWorks Draw software.  Students can use draw tools to investigate points, lines, rays, and angles: measuring, creating, rotating, and defining.

Independent Workstation

Read, Write, Think

Reading and writing interactive tools for independent work stations in the classroom.

Read, Write, Think Project:

Students and teachers will learn how to use creative writing tools at the Read, Write, Think site for purposes of independent or pairs work at an independent classroom workstation. After proper training on the use of these tools students should not require the assistance of the teacher. As an independent workstation students can work on assigned creative writing tasks with the help of interesting interactive tools. The tools include the following titles.

Secondary: Bio Cube Persuasion Map Multi genre Mapper

Elementary: Acrostic Poems Comic Creator Doodle Splash Riddle Interactive Shape Poems Story Maps Letter Generator
