2008-9 Elementary Science Teacher Integration Initiative
Participants Will Receive:

Participantsaccepted into the Elementary Science Initiative will receive use of anLCD projector (used). Participants may keep this projector as long as theycontinue to meet the requirements ofthe Initiative. If a participant leaves the district or elects to nolonger participate by failing to complete initiative requirements, theprojector must be returned. There are a limited number of spaces available in this initiative; as a result, application detail and quality will be considered in narrowing down the number of participants accepted in to this initiative group.

Goals of the Science/Projector Integration Initiative:

Specifically this initiative has the following goals:
  • Improve student learning.
  • Increase teacher and student skills and competency with computers and technology.
  • Promote increased use of district technology resources for instruction.
  • Increase use of online-learning.
  • Encourage attendance at District-level technologyworkshops, learning new ways to take advantage of technology tools andresources to become more effective and more efficient.
Participant Eligibility:

All full-time, licensed, elementary science specialist teachers.

Initiative Requirements:

Attend all required Initiative trainings (specific dates and times will be available in PDExpress):
  • Workshop I: Orientation/Car and Feeding of LCD Projector (by Feb. 10th, 2 hours)
  • WorkshopII: Elementary Science and Technology Basics (by March 10th, 2 hours)
  • Workshop III: Elementary Science and Technology Advanced (by April 20th, 2 hours)
Additional Requirements:
  • Expand the use of technology in classroom setting.
  • Createand maintain your Urban Planet web page. If you haven't started yourUrban Planet web page you will need to do this by February 10, 2009.
  • Maintainpossession of Initiative hardware. Equipment is checked out to trainedparticipants only.  Giving away or the loaning or Initiative hardware is notallowed.
  • Read and respond to Technology Integration Initiative emails.
Special Circumstances:
  • Teachers who havepreviously participated in an Integration Initiative but returnedhardware due to a position change may obtain a projector by attending only the following workshop.
    • WorkshopII: Elementary Science and Technology Basics (by March 10th, 2 hours)
  • Teachers who previously/presentlyparticipated/ing in the New Teacher Laptop Initiative are required toattend 2 workshops beyond the New Teacher requirements.
    • Workshop I: Orientation/Car and Feeding of LCD Projector (by 10th, 2 hours)
    • Workshop II: Elementary Science and Technology Advanced (by 15th, 2 hours)
Coach Support:
TechnologyIntegration Services, based at 1930 Como, provides technologyintegration support for all SPPS schools. The department can assist inthe following ways:
  • Curriculum integration/planning support
  • Direct classroom instruction support
  • On-site integration training
  • Building level technical planning
Electronic Resources:

TheEducational Technology Department purchases a number of electronicresources that are available to staff, students and parents. Theseon-line encyclopedias, electronic reference libraries, digital videoand training tools can be accessed at:
